Helping UK and West Midlands Schools Access Funding
Having worked with schools for over 25 years, we know that finding room in school budgets can be difficult. In our recent school storytelling area competition, we heard many amazing stories from across the Midlands that highlighted how important giving children a safe, engaging place to play, rest, and learn outdoors is to the region’s schools.
Securing funding for playground equipment and grants for school playground developments is the first step for school or nursery playground projects. Therefore we strive to help schools working around limited budgets looking the best equipment for their children’s play areas.
The School Playground Company has partnered with the education sector funding specialists at GD Funding to help assist and advise in the bid writing process. This funding and grant application process has helped many schools with limited budgets to achieve their dream playgrounds and sports areas.
Play Projects: Nottingham’s Playgrounds with Equipment for Any Age Groups
Some of our most recent projects have brought opportunities for physical activity to Nottingham School Playgrounds. In 2023 we installed 2 new active playgrounds in the county that cater to different age groups but provide equal fun!
At Burton Joyce Primary School, their school moto is “Ready for Anything”. So this adventurous school is thrilled with its new exciting range of active play equipment.
The new active playground equipment includes a multiplay tower unit and trim trail suitable for all ages. We renewed the previously worn-down outdoor area with low-maintenance artificial grass safety surfacing to create a safe space for children to play.
The Early Years Mini Trim Trail at St Michael’s CofE Academy is designed for early years students. The installation uses smaller elements that provide an appropriate physical challenge.
The nursery playground was designed as a specialised open play space with a variety of bespoke active play items. We completed this installation with a multiplay tower unit and safer grass carpet flooring that the children love! Providing a range of activities is essential to develop physical skills and coordination for all age groups. The scaled-down climbing and jumping trails at St Michael’s provide space to build motor skills and confidence. Whereas full-size trim trails provide a challenge for the older primary school children at Burton Joyce.
Play Projects: Warwickshire Schools Explore Imagination and Adventure
Over the last few years, two of our Warwickshire school playground projects have embraced imagination in the outdoors. But they have gone about this in very different ways to suit their students’ individual needs.
St Joseph’s Primary School in Royal Leamington Spa has made the most of its available playground space by turning a disused corner into an inspiring fairy-tale themed storytelling area.
Students can read and relax independently, or teachers can bring lessons outdoors in a variety of seating configurations. The area includes accessible artificial grass carpet surfaces, a range of creative seating solutions, and a bespoke storytelling chair.
With their new adventure playground structure, St Nicholas CofE Primary School found a unique, active way to inspire new forms of play for their students.
The bespoke active play structure is themed around a pirate ship. This design incorporates a range of activities for children to explore in imaginative ways. Splinter free wood and rubber safety surfacing in colourful water splash designs protect children playing.
The School Playground Company encourages and provides a wide variety of activities with our children’s outdoor play equipment. School playgrounds should provide inspiring sites for exciting imaginary pirate battles as well as quiet reading in a fairy-tale forest. Quiet learning and active playing areas can be combined into a play space that is able to truly provide a space for all students to enjoy.
